Wedding Weekend Basics

We ended up the week last week with a little post detailing cake tasting for our own wedding, but our actual weekend centered completely around the events of my best friend, Emily's, wedding. I was a bridesmaid in the wedding (you might remember Emily and her now husband, J, from the trip we took to Asheville over the summer). Today I wanted to round up a few of my favorite shots I was able to snap with the phone throughout the weekend.

Wedding Planning: Cake Tasting Done!

Back in July during our 1 year Blogiversary post, we promised we'd divulge more wedding planning and details as they shape up here on the blog. Well, we're slowly but surely shaping up plans for our big day coming up in June and one thing we were able to cross off the list this week was the cake!

DIY Industrial Stool Makeover

When Mary brought this little industrial stool back from her grandmother's house a few weeks back, I had an immediate vision for it:

Fall Planting & Garden Updates

Over the past few weekends we've been trying to clear out planters from the spring and summer plantings, harvest and preserve herbs that are beginning to get at the end of their rope, take care of the plants that will fair through the fall and winter and even plant a few new fall "container crops" here and there as we have space and time. Today we'd love to just give a catchall roundup of how things are looking for our fall plants so far!

Our Luck At The Alley Sale

Yesterday we touched on a (not so) little alley sale we were lucky enough to happen upon during our Saturday morning walk with Basil through the fan.

Weekend Basics

Early Saturday morning while walking Basil through the fan, we saw a sign on Monument Avenue for a "huge alley sale." We decided to check it out and sure enough, about 10 or more different houses between West Grace Street and Monument Avenue had opened up their garages for a huge alley sale. It was amazing. We found and managed to bring home a couple pretty neat pieces we'll be excited to share more about here on the blog soon.

DIY Wall Rack: Repurposed Antique Electrical Insulator Bracket

Over the long weekend I mentioned Tim taking on one of the most creative DIY projects I've seen, and have been excited to share the details here on the blog. Several weeks ago I brought home a small collection of antique blue glass electrical insulators (like these) from my grandmother's home. They have sat out on her front stoop for as long as I can remember and were a little memento I wanted to keep of hers — thinking we'd find a good place for them to sit in our home as decor.

Painting the Family Room: Done!

After finishing up the painting in our dining room recently, we fell so much in love with the "stone" color we chose for the bottom portion of the room that we decided to use it to paint our entire family room and partial front entry walls. Call us crazy, but we had the energy and decided to pounce on getting this last room done before our gusto (and motivation) ran out. We simply picked up a second can from Restoration Hardware and went ahead knocking out this last room of the downstairs.

Planting Our Avocado Tree

Well folks, nearly 10 months after starting our little avocado pit growing experiment, we've transplanted one of our trees into a potted new home with fresh soil — and we did it with the help of these adorable little hands.

Weekend Basics

Not sure if you all know this or not, but I'm a Nascar fan from way back. While I don't plan my weekends (like football) around watching races or even get out to the track, I love watching a good race. Needless to say, when I had the opportunity to go to this weekend's race with my company who was sponsoring a few of the drivers, I was thrilled.

Playing With Food: Animal Toast

I mentioned having planned a few fun little projects for when my three nieces and nephews (all under age 4) came to stay with us over the long weekend. One of these projects involved making animal shapes in toast since I knew they'd be joining us for lunch as soon as they arrived. It also gave me an excuse to bring those cute animal shaped cookie cutters we got at Ikea out from hiding!

I Heard It Through The Grapevine...

We mentioned taking care of a fall planting project we've been meaning to get to for a while now over this past weekend. Well, we finally got around to transplanting the two grapevines plants we brought home this past February — you may recall they looked like this when we brought them home.

Goodbye Purple Walls

We've officially said goodbye to our formerly purple walls and completed the painting portion of our dining room — the room farthest back in the downstairs of our home. While this room is far from finished, we thought it would be fun to share what progress we've made so far.

A happy belated Labor Day to you and yours! Tim and I were lucky enough to both be able to take the long weekend — and this one turned out to be jam packed.
