How to Wall Mount a Turtle Shell

Earlier in the week we shared the newly complete corner gallery wall in our front office. Amidst the collection of art and photos are a few natural curiosities, for instance the ivory colored turtle shell that adds a little dimension into the mix:

Garden Update: Late Spring 2014

Today we wanted to pop in with a late spring update on all things gardening. We gotta keep it real and let you know that we definitely haven't planted as much as we'd like, and not everything we've tried this year has been a winning success, but other plants have really taken off. We've got a bit of a gardening hodge podge around the house, so today we're going to lay it all out, just the way it is!

The last time we checked in on the state of the garden and new plantings was in early April — you can get the full rundown in this post. Well, it's amazing what 6 weeks can do in terms of growth, so let's take a tour!

Where We Found Our Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree

As an update to our office transformation earlier this week, we mentioned ordering a fiddle leaf fig tree to complete the greener elements of the new space — and it's finally here! We've wanted some larger indoor plants and after studying the best types of trees for indoors, we liked the look of both the rubber plant and fiddle leaf fig.

How To: Grow & Propagate Succulents

It's been pretty darn freezing here in Virginia lately, but with February on the horizon, we are both so eager to get our hands dirty in prep for spring gardening. Since it's still too cold and snow covered for getting out in the yard, we've been steadily maintaining our indoor plant projects and trying to take on a few new ones — like growing succulents!

Lockhart Family Farm Visit

Last Friday I ventured out to Woodford, Virginia to spend a good part of the day at Lockhart Family Farm. Lockhart is a small scale farm specializing in raising heritage breed pork and poultry — they use what they call old world sustainable farming practices. You might remember the recap from our first visit to this farm for the community Food Coop farm dinner.

We're in the Money!

One of the first projects Tim took on early this month was transplanting the money tree plant he'd kept in his office for over 12 years into a new, bigger planter that would now live at home. We left off hopeful, and looking a little something like this...

How To: Regrow Lemon Balm from Cuttings

Over the past year we've had luck in learning how to propagate and regrow different plants from cuttings. So far, we've mainly tackled the herb varieties like mintrosemary and basil and today we wanted to show you how we went about it with lemon balm.
