Garden Update: Late Spring 2014

Today we wanted to pop in with a late spring update on all things gardening. We gotta keep it real and let you know that we definitely haven't planted as much as we'd like, and not everything we've tried this year has been a winning success, but other plants have really taken off. We've got a bit of a gardening hodge podge around the house, so today we're going to lay it all out, just the way it is!

The last time we checked in on the state of the garden and new plantings was in early April — you can get the full rundown in this post. Well, it's amazing what 6 weeks can do in terms of growth, so let's take a tour!

Progress Report: Starter Plant Project Updates

We've started quite a few little indoor and outdoor planting projects over the past several weeks and thought we'd share some progress reports on how many of them are already coming along. We've just begun to notice the first signs of our horseradish root sprouting up!

Our Avocado Tree: Winter Update

As promised in yesterday's winter garden update, today we wanted to give a little winter progress report on the state of our avocado tree we've been growing from the pit. We haven't given an update on this guy since early fall back when we planted it in a soil filled-container, so we're more than overdue.

Fall Planting & Garden Updates

Over the past few weekends we've been trying to clear out planters from the spring and summer plantings, harvest and preserve herbs that are beginning to get at the end of their rope, take care of the plants that will fair through the fall and winter and even plant a few new fall "container crops" here and there as we have space and time. Today we'd love to just give a catchall roundup of how things are looking for our fall plants so far!

Planting Our Avocado Tree

Well folks, nearly 10 months after starting our little avocado pit growing experiment, we've transplanted one of our trees into a potted new home with fresh soil — and we did it with the help of these adorable little hands.

Progress Report: Growing Avocados From the Pit

In addition to several other vegetable window growing experiments we have going on, we've been trying our hands at growing avocado trees from their pits. Today we wanted to give a full update on how they've been coming along.
