How To: Make Natural Raspberry Peach Fruit Leather

I don't know what it is about those fresh little pints of raspberries from Agriberry Farm at our local Farmer's Market, but they always get me in the mood to make fruit leather.

Bean Plant Update & Canning Spicy Dilly Beans

Our little backyard urban garden continues to grow and we're now at the stage where we've been able to enjoy and preserve some of the fruits of our labor! Today, we want to talk about beans.

Summer Storm Hits Richmond

We interrupt this regularly scheduled program to bring you new shots of storm damage from the Fan! You may recall the hurricane that came through while we were in our old house — well we had another violent storm hit during tornado warnings in our area yesterday and it was a little scary.

Weekend Basics

We've had a few back to back jam packed (say that 5 times fast) weekends over the past couple weeks and more to come soon, so we jumped at the chance to hunker down around the house over the weekend. We took time to just relax, and catch up on season 4 of Breaking Bad in prep for the upcoming premiere of season 5! Anyone else hooked on this show? Weekend activities also included some gardening, cooking and a little bit of jewelry-making (on Mary's part)...

Our NYC Photo Album

It wouldn't be us if we didn't share a little photo roundup of our week in NYC, so sit back and (hopefully) enjoy our week in photos...

I Tumblr For You...

Please excuse the Culture Club reference, we couldn't resist (warning: clicking that link will cause a case of the can't-get-this-song-outta-your-heads syndrome).

Skillet-Fried Southern Oyster Po' Boys

Tim's been in the kitchen again and this time he's really outdone himself! He brought some fresh oysters home late last week and whipped up some of the best southern food I've had in a long time — and you guys know how much he cooks around here! Find the full recipe for this incredible skillet-fried oyster Po' boy in his latest guest post for Lot18.

Too Hot for Baseball

Those who know me, know I love the Phillies. Needless to say, we'd been excited about our plans to go see them play the Orioles in Baltimore on Sunday. We left Richmond bright and early to head up to Maryland since we wanted some time to walk around the Inner Harbor and the ballpark before the game started.

Weekend Basics

1 All of Saturday we spent time with our family celebrating the amazing life of my Grandmother. She would have made it to 101 years this July, so there were lots of stories and memories to share as you can imagine.

World History: Hanging Our School Map

Back in January, our friend Richard, who writes the fab Hills & Heights neighborhood news blog here in RVA, gave us a full sized industrial pull-down world map he'd rescued from a local school in our old neighborhood as a housewarming gift. He too shares a penchant for all things vintage with a little history. We were pretty much beside ourselves with the map since we'd been on the hunt for one to re-purpose into a piece of large-scale art for more than a year.

Bringing the Gun Lamp Back to Life

We've been meaning to share this post about revamping a new-to-us gun lamp (you heard that right), but are just getting to it now — you might notice we got this done a little bit before we were able to paint the front room judging from those bright red walls that are no more in the background of some of these shots. OK, we admit we did this in April and have no excuse — please forgive us!
