Project Airstream: Renovation Continues!

If you follow along regularly, you'll know we've been helping to restore a 1976 Airstream camper that belongs to our friends, Josiah and Jocelyn of Lockhart Family Farm. This past Saturday we hit the road with a gallon of Kilz primer, ready to get back at it.

Weekend Basics

It was another beautiful weekend here in RVA! We not only did we have some welcome overnight rain showers, but got out of the house in order to take on what turned out to be a mix of projects — and even squeezed in a date night! Similar to last weekend, the main event from this weekend was another trip to the farm to continue work on updating the airstream we've been tackling with Josiah & Jocelyn. I will tell you we decided to remove the front folding seating area — we've got big plans for this space.

Fancy That!

We're back again this week, sharing all the smaller things we're into (or fancying, hence the series name) that might not fit into a single post for one reason or another. Sometimes there might be a long list of randomness, other times it might be a single gem — whatever the case, here's what we're into right now.

Over on eHow: DIY Industrial Pipe Garment Rack

It's no secret that homes built back in the early 1900's had very little closet space, and in our house it's no joke. We're always looking for new ways to creatively provide more storage solutions around the house (like our stacked suitcase nightstand, kitchen locker console and repurposed insulator wall rack). In that ongoing quest, we're sharing the full step-by-step process for how we built this industrial-chic rolling clothing rack in our latest project post for eHow...

17 Apart Turns 3!

Today marks the 3 year anniversary since we published our first post here on 17 Apart! It's amazing how much can happen over the course of a year. Some of the bigger highlights and milestones that come to mind include Tim quitting his day job to pursue full time blogging, which has opened up a lot more room for projects and exploring ways to make money at blogging. We welcomed a new niece to the family in March, celebrated Tim's parent's 50th wedding anniversary and our own 1st wedding anniversary — and Brandon started his journey with his first year at college while Stephanie ended that same chapter, graduating from JMU.

How To: DIY Mason Jar Match Holder

Yesterday we shared the first big updates we've made to the 1976 Airstream camper renovation project we've got going on. Today, while we've got camping on the brain, we thought it would be fun and to share the simple DIY project we made as a camper housewarming gift (glampwarming gift?) for Josiah and Jocelyn — this portable mason jar match holder.

Project Airstream: Renovation Begins!

Last week we shared the beginnings of an exciting collaboration we're working on with Josiah and Jocelyn of Lockhart Family Farm. To make a long story short, they recently brought home a vintage 31' airstream camper in all of it's 1976 glory to house on the farm as both a camp classroom and airbnb glamping getaway. They kindly asked us to help with the updating process as a way to bring this vintage beauty up to the next level. We jumped at the chance and you can read up on our very first visit to see the camper in this post.

Weekend Basics

Our weekend was filled with finds, a little airstream demolition, good food and travel — what more could we ask for? Much of Friday, Tim spent time tinkering with a 1955 RCA Victor we scored for a steal at a local auction — it's a wooden table and tube radio with so much mid-century appeal.

Blogiversary Q&A: Your Burning Questions

It's that time again — our 3 year blogiversary (blog launch anniversary) is coming up next Thursday and just as we've done over the past 2 years, we'll be stepping down off the soap box to open up the forum to all of your burning questions.

Both images by Tori Watson, Marvelous Things Photography

To give a little background, over the past 3 years, we've celebrated our "blogging anniversary" by posting a roundup of your questions (that we gather from this pre-anniversary post) and try to answer as best we can. We can tend to get wrapped up in the day-to-day, so it's fun for us to hear what you're wondering about, be it a project we forgot to give an update on, something as simple as which ice cream flavor is Mary's favorite (she's got an opinion!), or if we're willing to share some of our favorite outtakes from our engagement shoot...

How To: Make These DIY Leather Keychain Fobs

A few weeks back we hit up our local leather crafting store to pick up a large scrap of leather for the DIY catchall tray project we had in the works. Since the tray project required a flush leather square, we were left with several leftover scraps to make use of...

Long Weekend Basics: July 4th

Getting a little patriotic with our Sunglass Warehouse Sunnies — pretty sure Basil takes the cake here.

We were both able to take the long weekend and enjoyed the extra day — it's amazing just how big of a difference it can make when you haven't taken one for a stretch.

Over on eHow: DIY Outdoor Terra Cotta Storage Table

As we spend more time outside on these warm summer evenings, we realized we needed some additional table space to rest a cool glass of white and some citronella candles (keeping those bugs that love to bite Mary at bay). We love the look of ceramic garden stools that seem to be cropping up everywhere (like these), so decided to try our hands at fashioning one of our own using strategically stacked terra cotta planters. We love how our side table turned out and wrote up the full step by step process for how to make one of your own in our latest project post over on eHow.
