Checking in from Italy!

Buongiorno! That's, "good morning" in Italian! As you may already know, today we're checking in from the start of a 2 week vacation in Italy. We're staying in the Umbria region in a remote stone farm house that sits atop an olive grove overlooking the small historic town of Assisi.

As you may imagine, we're most looking forward to soaking in the breathtaking scenery, preparing meals at home with fresh local ingredients and drinking copious amounts of wine (we hear the access and price compares with that of water) with our family throughout the stay.

Outside of home base, we do have plans to venture out over the next several days around the area, make a few day trips to both Florence and Rome, stop into a winery that produces vino from Tim's favorite grape varietal (Sagrantino) and generally look out for different markets, antique fairs and unique stops. We're even up for a few wildcards, like trying to track down the Prada outlet, hopefully coming across a photo-booth and seeing what an Italian Ikea looks like.

We've got a few posts lined up for the blog in the coming days, including a photo roundup from Basil's birthday and an autumn recipe post. In the meantime, we'll look forward to sharing real-time vacation snaps along the way on Instagram and Facebook using the tag #TMItaly15 if you'd like to see everything in one place.

Have you been to Italy? We'd love to know what your favorite "must-do's" were and are always on the lookout for a good recommendation or off-the-beaten path adventure.

Arrivederci for now,
Mary & Tim

    1. Thanks so much for the ideas, Anna! We are actually headed to Florence for the day tomorrow, so your post is timely. The Mercato Centrale, natural gelato and perhaps the wild boar pasta will definitely be some of the stops we'll keep an eye out for.

      Many thanks!
