Weekend Basics: Pumpkin Patching it!

Over the weekend we took the chance to hit up the pumpkin patch with my sister's children, which is shaping up to be a fun yearly tradition.

Pumpkin Patching It!

Friday we took some time off to make a day of heading out to a local pumpkin patch, Gallmeyer Farms, to spend time with my sister, all 3 of her children, my mom and aunt. It was a big crowd, and with so many of us "big kids" on hand, there was plenty of attention to go around.

Halloween How To: Make a DIY Concrete Pumpkin

This year, we've introduced a new friendly face among the bunch of fall decor out front. Can you spot it?

Autumn Traditions: Off to the Pumpkin Patch!

This weekend we took our younger nieces and nephew to one of our favorite local pumpkin patches to spend some time together with family, let them pick out some pumpkins and perhaps a few for ourselves.

Over the past few years we've enjoyed rounding everyone up at Gallmeyer Farms — it's a big open space with a farmer's market, flower garden, ample play area, hay maze, hayrides and of course an expansive field filled with varying sized pumpkins and varieties of gourds. The kids have started referring to this location as "Aunt Mary & Uncle T's pumpkin patch" since they associate visiting this one with us...

Decorating with Toddlers: Painted Letter Pumpkin

Our youngest niece, Sophia, stayed with us over the weekend. She's just over 2 years old, full of energy and sweet as can be. We'd planned a couple indoor activities since it was expected to be a rainy weekend and painting her very own family pumpkin turned out to be one of the biggest hits.

Our Halloween Pumpkins: A Squirrel & His Nut

It's hard to believe we've already made it to November this year. Even though all the Halloween festivities took place last night, we wanted to share our pumpkins since we did end up getting them carved in the bewitching hour, just in time to light them up for all the little trick or treaters that came our way.

Weekend Basics

Our weekend was one of those amazingly jam-packed few days filled with fun fall events and activities. We actually made it a long weekend and kicked it off on Friday by spending time at a local pumpkin patch with family, including these three little wigglers:

We'll detail more of the fun from the pumpkin patch in another post, but who can resist three little ones in a wheelbarrow?

Celebrating 10 (or is it 11?) Halloweens Together

It's hard to believe November has rolled in. It's one of our favorite times of year, and means we have a new Halloween roundup to share from all the weekend activities if you care to see! We mostly spent time hanging out on our front steps with our last-minute lone jack-o-lantern, a couple glasses of spirits, our big cauldron of candy and Basil by our side to keep a watchful eye out for all the trick-or-treaters. Trick-or-treating can be hit or miss on our street since we're just outside the swell of Hanover Avenue, where the streets are closed down and the real Halloween crowds congregate.

Weekend Basics: Our Halloween Festivities

It seems like we blinked this year and now it's November. Classically my favorite month out of the year — it always sneaks right up, signifying the busy holiday season is here. Before plunging head deep into the holiday spirit, we wanted to take the time to share a quick recap of our weekend and Halloween festivities.

Weekend Basics

Are you having a no-school day today like practically everyone else on the East Coast? Richmond is all a'buzz with talk and prep for Hurricane Sandy (aka Frankenstorm). We spent a good portion of the weekend prepping too and we are now hunkered down, but didn't let it get in the way of our regular weekend going-ons.

Weekend Basics

As mentioned last week, we had out 5 1/2 year old niece staying with us last week as a house guest while her parents were out of town. As you can probably imagine, she kept us busy and on our toes in the best of ways. Highlights in between school included the pumpkin patch, our first time watching Frozen, baking cookies, and a trip to the Science Museum of Virginia to see Pandas: The Journey Home in the IMAX theatre.

Apple Picking in Crozet, Virginia

Over the weekend we drove up near Charlottesville to go apple picking. We'd been planning to meet up with Brandon, who's in his 3rd year at JMU now (where has the time gone?), and Tim discovered Chile's Peach Orchard at about the halfway point between Richmond and Harrisonburg as a fun meeting spot.

Three Against One: A New Niece On The Way!

Yesterday we talked all about our time spent with our nieces and nephew at a local pumpkin patch. What we didn't tell you is, we are excited that my sister is expecting her 4th child come March!

That's right, my sister is expecting once again and we all just found out yesterday that we'll be welcoming another little girl into the family — this will be our 3rd niece on her side. You can see a little bit of her baby bump peeking through her coat above.
