Over on eHow: Homemade Apple Butter

Back in autumn, I brought home a bushel of apples as Mary and I set out to make this year's batches of homemade applesauce and apple butter. While both can be found in the grocery store I fondly remember both versions of my grandmothers. Who knew how surprisingly simple they are to make at home using only a handful of natural ingredients?

Apple butter is much like the process of making applesauce, it just involves a bit more spice and a slower, longer cooking time over the stovetop.

It stores well refrigerated for up to 2 weeks and even longer when properly canned. Over the last several weeks we've been enjoying spreading it on everything from bagels with cream cheese to grilled cheeses — and it even makes a nice addition when swirled into greek yogurt or morning oats.

Head on over to eHow for our full recipe if you're thinking about whipping up a batch of your own!
