Over on eHow: DIY Rustic Tree Slice Chalkboard

Our house is continuing to look more and more like autumn, especially with the addition of this rustic pumpkin shaped DIY chalkboard we made in our latest project post for eHow.

With help from a few swipes of chalkboard paint and a pre-cut craft wood slice, this is one of those quick weekend projects that has so many fun uses — seasonal decor, a monthly calendar, party menu and our personal favorite — a travel Tic Tac Toe game board.

We just might have to save this kid-friendly gift idea in our back pocket as the holidays get closer:

Head on over to eHow to see more pictures of the project with step by step instructions for making one of your own.

  2. Last year I made these for a few friends as Christmas gifts. The only difference was that I painted a thick layer of magnetic paint (available at craft stores like Michaels) underneath the chalkboard paint. Just make sure you test a magnet on it before painting the chalkboard portion. I also gave friends little hangers with tiny screws so that they may attach to the back to hang; I like the idea of a piece of ribbon or twine a bit better though.
