Weekend Basics

Tim opening his Father's Day card from Basil

It was another beautiful weekend here in Richmond and it's the start to what looks like a sweltering hot week ahead as we move towards the first official day of summer on Saturday. We ended up opening the house for a little get together on Saturday evening to welcome in summer with friends and hosted a Father's Day cookout on Sunday, so it was a busy weekend where we actually got a chance to put the camera down, enjoying catching up with company.

In true-to-us fashion, we did get a chance to snap a couple shots of these delicious chocolate mascarpone blueberry and raspberry mini-cakes I made to serve:

I'd spotted this recipe from Little Upside Down Cake on Pinterest and wanted to give them a try. Definitely a simple, fun and delicious one to make for 4th of July parties you're throwing or attending this summer — get the recipe here.

Outside of our home get togethers, we got a chance to stop by Ardent, the newest brewery in town and closest to us in Scott's Addition, for its opening on Friday night:

The space is beautiful with an indoor industrial vibe and a large open outdoor beer garden. Friday night was packed and I can see this space being a fun local place to meet up with friends to grab a drink. Speaking of drinks — Adent's honey ginger beer will definitely have us coming back for more. If you're local to the area or passing through anytime soon, this is such a fun new RVA spot to put on the visit-list.

Early Saturday I got the chance to spend time with my sister's family and our Dad, checking out Maymont's annual Bumblebee Jamboree event:

This was such a fun family-friendly event where the kids could learn all about pollinators (like bees and butterflies), and the good they do for the world around us. They were able to step inside tents filled with butterflies, watch a puppet show about how caterpillars turn into butterflies, make puppets and hats, plant bee-friendly flowers to take home, watch bees through glass and just generally run around outside — we loved it.

Look who else made a sleepy little appearance:

Last but not least, with all three of our efforts (Tim, myself and Stephanie), we were able to finish all the wall restoration and repair work we set out to complete in Stephanie's room — including a new coat of paint!

Goodbye lime green walls! As cleanup continues, we'll look forward to sharing all the details on this latest bigger home project mid-week.

We hope you also had a beautiful, fun-filled weekend and are able to keep cool throughout the week ahead if you're experiencing the same heatwave headed our way! Sounds like perfect popsicle weather to me :)
