Long Weekend Basics: Thanksgiving 2013

Wow, is anyone else feeling like December has crept up on us out of nowhere? We hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday — we both took a little extra time off to make for an extended weekend break and are feeling relaxed and re-energized to tackle the busy festivities ahead. Today we wanted to share a little recap of our Thanksgiving day and some of the other happenings from our long weekend!

We spent Thanksgiving in Prince George, VA at Mary's mom's house again this year. The day was spent catching up with family with the sounds of the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and the Purina Dog Show going on in the background.

Someone was very interested in the Sporting breed portion of the show, and yes, that is a Corona — don't judge:

We had the meal pot-luck style this year and certainly weren't short on food — my parents made Mary's favorite Hungarian potato dish for her birthday. They make it once a year (and joke that it is her birthday cake) since it's such a heavy and filling recipe (potatoes, sausage, butter, sour cream), and we all look forward to it around Thanksgiving:

Basil, get your nose out of here:

Mary and her mom headed out and took care of a little shopping Thanksgiving evening, throughout Friday and even Small Business Saturday — did you partake in the crowds this year? We've also had fun checking out the Cyber Monday deals going on today from the warmth of the house.

Saturday night we went to the Richmond Spiders & JMU Dukes basketball game with Mary's Dad:

It was fun getting a chance to watch the two teams go at it, since we have a new special spot in our hearts for the Dukes (ever since Stephanie and Brandon started attending JMU). In the end, the Spiders took the win, which was just as fine by us.

We spent the day at home yesterday packing up vintage goods and jewelry parcels headed to new homes for the holidays while catching up on season 3 of Homeland and generally enjoying having a full day at home.

Oh, and digging into a couple of the last huge pieces of Mary's birthday cake:

It's not Mary's birthday until we have a Ukrop's pound cake.

We've got a busy week ahead — I'm prepping for another holiday photo-shoot with Relay Foods and we hope to break out some of our own holiday decorations too. Have you already started or do you wait for later in the month?

P.S. There's still time to take advantage of our 20% discount on all jewelry over in Mary's jewelry shop through the end of the day today (just use code BFCM20 at checkout). Happy Shopping!
