Weekend Basics

How was your weekend? We started ours out with a little happy hour visit to Pasture...

After a couple craft cocktails made by our friend, Beth, and nibbles of pimento cheese we headed down the street for some oysters at Rappahannock before heading back home. We got a chance to chat with Beth about RVA Swappers (the local food swapping group she organizes) and hope to attend the August meetup.

Saturday Tim went out with the guys to shoot targets while I had a lazy morning:

Sunday we headed out early with Basil in tow to pick up a couple of our friends (who were in town from Durham for a wedding) and head out to a forest trail to forage for mushrooms. We'd never looked for edible mushrooms before, but these friends know what to look for, so we thought it would be fun and good to let Basil get out and run around. Little did we know we'd come back with a basket full of mushrooms to cook with, including this handful of chanterelles:

We'll put a bigger post together all about the trip and what we learned soon (or if you don't see a post from us in the next few days you'll know we were all wrong on what we deemed edible, ha).

If you keep up with us on Facebook, you  might have gotten a peak at the cleanup job Tim starting tackling on that big metal locker we found at a nearby alley sale back in September:

We started out by stripping the layers of paint and years of dirt away to reveal it's original metal surface in all of its industrial glory:

We've finally figured out what we want to do with this guy and look forward to sharing the detail soon!

Oh! And here are some pics from the Food Co-op picnic we mentioned from last weekend:

See the full set from the Food Co-op picnic here and find the recipe for the Kohlrabi Fries Tim prepared during one of his cooking demos here.
