We'd had some final photos made of the space leading up to a reveal here on the blog, and at the same time, snapped a few informal shots of my nine-month belly in lieu of a formal maternity shoot. Looking back, I'm so happy we decided to capture a few, now knowing this was my last full day being pregnant before going into labor.
The last time we checked in, Etta's crib and dresser had just arrived. The matching set is from the Tanner collection, made by Million Dollar Baby Classic, and were the first pieces we'd picked out to help set the tone for the overall design and color palette in the nursery. We fell in love with the transitional mid-century details in white, brass and leather, using them as inspiration to thread throughout the entire room.
We've since finished the crib with bedding and set the dresser up as dual storage and changing table.
Just 3 weeks out from bringing Etta home, we're primarily using the nursery to change and rock her, get dressed and collect laundry (lots of laundry!). For now, we're keeping Etta close, primarily using her Moses basket as a bassinet in our room. That said, I've found her crib as the perfect spot for getting her dressed and a cozy spot to keep her blankets until she is ready for crib sleeping (when we'll keep it completely clear). I love that this crib will grow and change right along with us and our needs over the next several years — it's convertible 3 ways so we'll be able to transition it all the way to toddler and day bed.
Above the dresser, Tim installed floating shelves to house a rotation of favorite books and display keepsake gifts. The book wall adds so much color and personality to the room — it's easily become a favorite element of the entire space.
The dresser drawers are sizable with ample room for all of Etta's clothes, changing supplies and more. The soft closure keeps noise low and I used these drawer organizers to help make sense out of all the tiny little things we need to keep track of now.
I have to admit, when I first organized the dresser I made a rookie mom mistake by grouping all of her similar clothing together and quickly learned after we brought her home that grouping by size is the way to go. Now I've got a go-to drawer for all of the things she currently fits and keep all of the other sizes separated out until she's big enough to rotate them in.
It's fun to think back on my mindset for the nursery before she came and how we've used it these early weeks now that she's here. As a first-time mom, I could only imagine how we might use it while designing and prepping the space. I'd chatted extensively with family and friends about what we'd really need, but nothing could prepare me better than diving right in and it all just sort of clicks now.
