Nursery Plans!

Lately, one of the most frequent questions we're getting is when we're starting the nursery. That and what the colors are or if we have a theme. Well, we've only just gotten started! In the midst of finishing up our laundry and upstairs office, we didn't want to wait too much longer on the nursery (given we're in the 60-day countdown) so, we are juggling a bit of each at once as time permits.

We'll be updating the room directly adjacent to our bedroom for our daughter's nursery. It's the smallest of our 4 bedrooms upstairs and we've used it over the last several years as a makeshift walk-in closet where we've kept an armoire, dressers, shoe storage, full-length mirror, and comfy seating. It has a beautiful fireplace mantle feature and is probably one of the least photographed rooms in our house, but that's about to change. I have to admit, I'm much more excited about this little space as a nursery!

So far, we've completely cleaned out the room and are making a clean slate of it by giving the space a fresh coat of paint. We're going to paint in Benjamin Moore's Silvery Moon — a soothing blend of gray and blue for this little one we are absolutely over the moon for.

Aside from the paint color, we've already decided on a few key pieces of furniture to build the space around like the rocker, crib, and dresser. I'm going for a calming, neutral feel with pops of color to bring a little fun in. We'll also be layering in a loose theme around the fable, The Tortoise and the Hare. It's one of my childhood favorites and holds special meaning for the both of us on a few different levels, namely slow and steady wins the race be it in love, dreams or the timing of starting a family.

I've been pinning ideas and nursery inspiration here and put together a mood board to help share how we're thinking about the design:

Now that we've cleared out the space and pulled out the paint cans, the plan is to fully complete the nursery over the next 5 weeks, which, if baby girl likes to stay on the plan should put us right at one month before we bring her home. To stay on track, we've teamed up as guest participants in the One Room Challenge where we'll share weekly room updates here on the blog along with friends who are also updating their own spaces — to see what everyone else is planning and for some great before/after inspiration, find all of the One Room Challenge projects right here.

As always, thanks for taking the time to check in on what we're up to today; we can't wait to watch this special space come to life over the next few weeks before baby girl's big arrival!
