Weekend Basics

Brrrrrr! It's been a cold couple of weeks and weekend here in Richmond. While we mostly just wanted to hunker down under blankets in front of the fire, we did get a chance to get out and about. This guy on the other hand, is just plain over the cold weather.

We hit up a couple estate sales, bringing a pile of vintage finds back with us for the vintage shop, and even stumbled across a new-to-us antiques spot called Susan's Selections:

It's in an old warehouse building off Staples Mill Road right near one of our favorite antique malls, so we decided to pop in and take a peek around. Always fun to have new places to check out here and there, so wanted to share in case anyone else decides to pop in. We didn't bring anything home from this place, but didn't come home empty handed from our other antiquing adventures:

We also got a chance to check out Harvest, one of Richmond's newest specialty grocery stores. Outside of specializing in mostly organic and local grocery staples, the space is just fun to hang out in — it's got a modern industrial vibe with an intimate general store type feel:

If you're local to the area or stopping through, it's definitely a spot worth checking out here in the fan. I even wrote up more of a profile from our visit over on E.A.T. today if you want to learn more.

On the food side of things, we were both busy in the kitchen this weekend. I worked on a new soup recipe and whipped up this flavorful quinoa-based greek salad:

Look for the recipes over on E.A.T. and Relay Foods later this week. Mary's the one that made the kitchen smell good Sunday afternoon, though, with a dessert we tried out from The Kinfolk Table recipe book:

This one's a winner — we'll post more about the book and this recipe here on the blog tomorrow!

How was your weekend? We're gearing up to watch the Super Bowl this coming Sunday. It's the first time we'll be pulling for different teams. Since the Steelers won't be in the running this year (might I remind you we have 6 rings), I'm pulling for Denver and Mary's pulling for the Seahawks. She went to school with Russell Wilson's (QB for Seattle) older brother, so it always makes the games so interesting and more meaningful to watch with that local tie-in. Whoever takes it this year, we know we'll be eating lots of good eats. I put together this Superbowl appetizer roundup for Lot18 and also one for Relay Foods if you're planning a menu too.

Who are you pulling for this year and what is your favorite appetizer to have during the game?
