Weekend Basics

The better part of this bitter cold Virginia weekend (by the way, it's supposed to be 8 degrees tonight) was spent tackling two projects — painting the hallway and putting away all of our Christmas decorations.

We're eager to share the progress we made with painting in tomorrow's post and are loving how updated the hallway feels already. In terms of packing up the decorations, Tim and I both look forward to bringing out the holiday decor each year, but we both laugh at how much we enjoy to packing it all up and putting it away once the holidays over — whew! We're definitely feeling more like the holidays have come to a close, we have a fresh new start and are excited about new home projects to come over the next several months.

Outside of painting and packing, I got a chance to make a few new pieces of jewelry for the shop:

Tim outdid himself with roasting this fresh local chicken from Lockhart Family Farm with winter vegetables for Saturday's dinner. We were celebrating Stephanie's last home-cooked meal before she headed back off to JMU to take on her last semester before graduating this May (how is time flying this fast?):

He also pulled out the bread board to try making a fresh loaf of olive and peppadew bread:

Both recipes turned out amazing and will be making appearances over on E.A.T. later in the week.

Possibly our favorite part of the weekend was spent cozied up by the fire to watch the season 4 premiere of Downton Abbey.

It's hard to believe we've waited almost an entire year to recover from the tears of the season 3 finale — and it feels good to be back! I caught myself saying things out loud like "There's my Mary, I missed you, Mary" and "Oh, Carson, I love Carson," amidst audible gasps at Violet's one-liners and the mischievous tactics from Thomas and crew. Yes, it's good to be back, Downton. Are you also watching this season or thinking about catching up to tune in?

How was your weekend? Did you take on any new projects or finally tackle something you've had on the to-do list?

  1. I haven't started watching Downton Abbey because I know I'd be sucked in and can't handle the emotional roller coaster my twitter friends seem to be on! Haha

  3. So glad Downton Abbey started again! I didn't believe it last year but I'm starting to worry Lady Edith is being set up. Is it obvious and I've slow to pick up on it?

Last weekend was all about hiding from the cold after spending hours shoveling out the snow. Downton was a perfect reward for all the hard work. :-)

    1. Well we certainly did not escape the cold but thankfully we escaped the snow. Although, we are secretly wishing for one good snow before winter leaves us. It helps so much with the bugs in summer.
