Money Tree Update: Cinnamon Root Stimulator

When we posted photos about our (ahem, mymoney tree accident last week, one commenter, Gin, kindly suggested that we: "PUT CINNAMON ON THE BROKEN TWIG! QUICK! And get it into some soil! The cinnamon will help start new roots as well as keep the fungus & bacteria at bay. Works better than ANY of the store-stuff!"

So what did I do? Well, I dipped that stem in some cinnamon STAT and promptly pushed it back down into the soil of the same planter the main plant is in...

Since we weren't hoping for much out of this broken off stem, we figured we have nothing to lose.

So far, the leaves haven't died — we're looking forward to seeing if it works.

Thanks for the tip, Gin!

  1. Just wondering is this specific for money tree plants or might it work on a variety of stem cuttings? I enjoy your page, variety and witty humor! Thanks : )

    1. Chris, we are not sure and first we had heard of this. It seems to be working for this money tree. If you try it on another tree please report back!

  2. Is this twig still doing okay? I have a money tree at work that could do with some trimming and if this cinnamon trick works, I might try it! I wouldn't mind being able to root one of my own...for the good of the company, of course.

  4. I heard cinnamon is a great ant / pest repellant. If this works it might help my money tree and repel the annoyances at the same time!
