One Office To Another: Transplanting The Money Tree

One of the first "jobs" I took on after declaring myself a full time blogger was transplanting the money tree I'd brought home from the office on my last day there...

The plant is a tropical wetland tree more formally known as the pachira aquatica. As the legend goes, the money tree is used as a feng shui cure to attract the energy of wealth and prosperity. The best location for this popular plant is in the office or home! Well after 12 years in the same little blue container in my old office it was time to bring it to the home office to keep the same feng shui juju happening here on the home front!

Now that it has a new home, I wanted to transplant it into a larger container to give its roots room to grow, expand and thrive — how's that for a euphemism? We are also looking forward to having a few larger, more established plants around the inside of the house.

The actual transplanting was rather simple — I gently eased the tree base from the small container, massaged the root ball a little to break up the tangled roots and planted it in a fresh, soil filled container:

Once transplanted, it was hard to believe how this thing could have grown and thrived for so long in such a small container!

After a healthy watering, we've brought it inside to sit on the corner of our locker console and are crossing our fingers it takes to the new container and space in general.

So far, the leaves have wilted slightly, but we're hoping it's just the initial shock of all the changes. In all the years I've had it, I've never seen it flower or fruit, so maybe with a little extra room we see some activity in the future.

We're keeping a close eye on the progress and hope you'll send some good money tree vibes our way!

  2. Actually, I was thrilled to see your post about the money tree!! I also re-planted my money tree to a bigger pot recently. In addition to that, I trimmed "ALL" leaves. My husband was very skeptical when I did so. He said I spoiled the tree. However after a few months, new leaves started to appear. It looks very healthy and happy tree now. I wish I could share a photo so I can send my money tree. : )
I enjoyed your post. Thank you!!
