His & Hers: Couples Tattoos

Here's the thing — Tim and I don't have any tattoos, nor are we planning to get one anytime soon, if ever. That being said, we're both in love with the idea of getting one — or two that symbolize something between the two of us. This, however, is something that takes time and lots of planning to make the right decision.

For now, we'll keep ruminating on the idea of getting ink of our own as we share some clever designs other couples seem to have gotten just right:

It may be my naivety, but I get the general impression most people with tattoos pretty much know they want one and have gotten one or several in their early years. I wonder how common it is for people to wait to even get their first tattoo later on in life. Most people say to the younger generation, "you just wait and see what that looks like when you get older." Well, how old is older (Tim especially wants to know your thoughts on this question, ha)?

So tell us — do you have tattoos? How long did it take you to decide what you wanted and are you still happy with the decision you made?

  1. HaHa...If I were younger, I would definitely consider getting one..It wasn't "hip" or "creative" back then (gee I sound like my grandma). Now I have too many wrinkles to enjoy a tattoo!!!

  3. got my 1st when I was 21 and now I have 4. each of them I got because of experiences I had. I'll be proud to say when I'm older these tattoos were proofs of how awesome I lived my life.

  4. I was 36 when I got my first....a mother daughter tat that my daughter has as well (each on our wrist). I absolutely love it!! Then I got my second one at age 40 on my ankle/foot area. I never thought in a million years that I would get a tattoo much less two but I have no regrets whatsoever and I have plans on getting a couple more. I don't really care what they will look like when I am old. When I see older folks with tattoos, I think that is cool :)

  5. I have 3, I got my first at 16 and my next one is a mother/daughter one that I'll get mid next year (because it's spring where I am and I want to be able to swim in the summer). I don't regret any of my tattoos, I'm still in love with them all and even more so because they're placed so that I can hide them from people like potential employers and customers. They all have meaning, and even if/when I grow out of them, they're still a representation of where I was at that stage of my life.
